See All ReviewsOne of my favorite restaurants period in Cleveland and definitely the best Mexican restaurant here. A lot of people think there is no authentic Mexican food between Chicago and New York, but not only is the food authentic here, it is reliably a place where you can actually hear the people you're eating with and not be in an otherwise overwhelming, busy, exhausting environment. The wait staff are friendly and helpful. I consistently pick Villa y Zapata when I want to go out to a place that is consistent in terms of all of these factors.
This place was a hole in the wall dive bar more than a restaurant. The ambiance is not great and the place does not seem very clean. It's also awkward when you walk in right into the bar. The Mexican food was lackluster and not worth the price we paid for it. As someone else mentioned the margarita was not good at all and was neon green in color.
Service is good. Food is good. However the margs and guac are not good. A marg is not sour mix and tequila. A marg is lime juice, agave, triple sec or orange liquor and tequila. I get that the bosses are trying to be efficient but then pre mix the other stuff. Don’t use sour mix. The bartender did say that if we want a marg the right way we can just ask next time but that shouldn’t be a special request, that should just be the standard. Look forward to coming back when the margs are redone.
